In recent years, with the aggravation of global warming, natural disasters happen more frequently, for example, tsunami of Indian Ocean in 2004, Katrina hurricane in 2005. These catastrophes have led to enormous economic lost and large effect to life of human, especially the threat intensified in coastal cities. Therefore, we have officially applied to the 2010 Shanghai Expo commission for presenting the latest results in emergency city assistance and new high-technology in energy reservation and environmental protection to numerous visitors. Therefore, we have considered the city assistance and harmonious life as the theme of our pavilion.
During 2010 Shanghai Expo, DEVNET pavilion was located in the exhibition area of international organization. Our theme is “City assistance, harmonious life——integration of international communication and cooperation.” DEVNET pavilion with areas of thousands of square meter, has presented in comprehensive way the theme of “City assistance and harmonious life”. It has called for the public participation in the relationship between city assistance and harmonious life by demonstrating the relevant content of environmental protection, energy reservation, new high-technology and international assistance based on the harmonious development of city.
Disasters happen frequently in the global world nowadays. City relief and protection have already become an indivisible part of good city life. How to reduce the loss to the city caused by natural disasters, how to confront the natural disasters with a correct attitude, how to create a better life for people in a harmonious society without anxiety, all these questions become important topic concerned by every country. A lot of new topics become more important in our daily life in the city such as, the function of disaster-defense and disaster-resist of city buildings, the prevention and control of Large-scale urban plague, the safety of water and food in the city, the capabilities of urban anti-terrorism and emergency response, the application of new high-technology of city environmental protection and city energy conservation, the training system of professional talents of city emergency relief, the communication and coordination of international city relief, etc. Therefore, we decided to use the city relief as the important theme of the content presenting in the international pavilion.
We think that this time the exhibition will help make full preparation to the emergency relief when accidental affairs happen in the central downtown and nearby areas of the city in order to reduce the Casualties and material losses, mixing concrete content in the Expo theme of “Better City, Better Life”.
DEVNET pavilion is hoping to make a centralized presentation and propagation of global information of disaster defense, disaster response and disaster mitigation in this half year of Shanghai Expo in order that citizens living in Earth can not only have a harmonious and prosperous life, but also be calm and brave to face the accidental and irresistible natural disasters, as well as be capable to use the global wisdom to form a common system to minimize the effect of disasters.
