UNDP with the implementation and execution of the Technological and Trade
Information Promotion System(TIPS),has played a significant role,both at the
technical and practical levels,in the support of developing countries by
promoting the exchange of technological,business and investment information and
fostering this way their inclusion and participation in the regional and

Secretary) In 1985, in accordance with the UNFSTD PROJECT INT/83-T01 document,
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Fund for Science
and Technology for Development (UNFSTD)jointly established UN Technological
Information Promotion System (UNTIPS) a global technological,economic, trade
information system aiming at promotion of trade, technology transfer and
business cooperation between developed nations and developing countries and
among developing countries.TIPS International Operation Center is located in
Rome,Italy.TIPS also has regional centers in Asia, Europe, Latin America and sub
regional centers in Central America. More than 100 countries are connected via
TIPS. For a better implementation of TIPS, in conformity with the approval of
UNDP, TIPS intergover- nmental managerial committees set up International
Development Information Network Association (DEVNET).DEVNET is a on-profit, non-governmental organization which enjoys Consultative Status (Category 1) with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), granted through ECOSOC Resolution 1296 (XLIV) in 1995.”
DEVNET is responsible for coordination between TIPS
international organs as well as operation management of the system. In 1995, the
Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) granted DEVNET with
permanent consultative status(Category I). In accordance with the requirements
of TIPS Headquarters, national branches of TIPS member countries established
relevant DEVNET national bureaus in their countries.
